GATE

At Melrose Elementary, gifted and talented students are clustered within the mainstream classrooms. These students are provided additional enrichment opportunities during school hours. Our goal is to challenge our students so that each can develop his/her own potential.  As an AVID School, our students are participating in Socratic Seminars to foster public speaking skills.  Our GATE Clusters also utilize Kaplan’s Depth and Complexity Icons to explore a variety of texts, to promote deeper analysis and greater comprehension.  Our students also complete “Passion Projects”.  This allows students to conduct research in an area of interest and share their learning.

Student, parent, and teacher input is used to determine areas of strength and to set goals for the school year. GATE students are given the opportunity to work at an accelerated pace in order to meet their individual needs.
